Never Too Late – I-Tunes Worldwide CD Release Album By Kit Cairns – Facebook Event Page

February 2, 2014 by Kit Leave a Comment

Singer Songwriter Kit Cairns from Barrie, Ontario is back with an all new original edgy and catchy 13 track independent acoustic folk/rock album titled “Never Too Late.”

Like most people when there are “Sunny Days” Kit can’t wait until “Four O’clock” to “Come Home” and enjoy life with his “Good Girl” and their two wonderful children. In an industry where the temptation is to fall off “The Wagon” and live just “For The Show” Kit has realized that only “Somedays” can be for himself. Most of Kits time is devoted to his family and teaching career so as a result it has been a long “Journey” since his previous release. However, Kit believes it’s “Never Too Late” to “Start Tonight” and write meaningful music that he can share on a “Friday Night” to try and dampen the effects of this “Out Of Wack” world we live in.

As a progression from his 2008 “My World” album, “Never Too Late” proves that Kit is determined for success and is always willing to grow and learn as a musician. From building his own home studio and mini record label (No Boundaries Music Entertainment) to receiving radio airplay, to performing regular gigs, to being nominated for several New Music Fest Awards, to organizing a successful “North Ontario Tour” and receiving extensive media coverage, Kit is devoted to staying true to himself and showcasing only original and independent music that has meaningful and positive messages.

Kit takes pride in knowing that he is completely independent and has self produced, recorded, mixed, printed, promoted and distributed this album without any help from record labels or other industry professionals.

Calling All College and University Alumni – Please Request My Music at The Following Radio Stations. Use Your Alumni Power

February 2, 2014 by Kit Leave a Comment

Hey folks! So I have sent press packages to many many radio stations in Canada
as part of the promotion process for my upcoming release. As any musician knows
radio playlist rotation is some of the best exposure that a musician can ask for
when promoting a new album and hoping to gather new fans, get your messages
heard, gain national exposure and ultimately sell CD’s and music downloads.
College and Universities are the key for independent musicians like myself. You
have to make some serious playlists on the campus and community radio circuit
before any mainstream radio station will even consider your music. So this is
the first step for promotion of this new release and this is where you come in.
Now that the stations listed below have received my CD and their music director
has electronically catalogued the entire CD it is available to be played by the
individual hosts of radio shows by that station. Its best if you track down a
specific host of a show and request it specifically but its not required. All
you have to do at this point is throw some attention my way with regard to
telephone or email requests of my NEW CD “Never Too Late” and that should
get the ball rolling. If there are no requests put forth then the CD will most
likely just sit on the shelf at the station for two years untill they get
recycled. Obviously this is not what I want to see happen to my heart and soul
costly investment. Personally for me Radio Playlist selection/achievement is one
of the main reasons I do what I do with regard to my music and I truly hope that
you will pick up the phone and call a few numbers and just say “Hi there I was
hoping you would play something from Kit Cairns’ New CD “Never Too Late.” You
dont even have to request a specific song or be a regular listener. Most of
these stations have very short range frequencies but ofcourse all have live
obline broadcasts via the internet so you can listen via their website. Here is
the track listing of my new CD if you do wish to request a specific
song:

NEVER TOO LATE
BY KIT CAIRNS

1. Friday Night
2. Four
O’Clock
3. Somedays
4. Journey
5. The Wagon
6. Good Girl
7. Come Home
8. Sunny Days (Instrumental)
9. Out Of Wack
10. For The Show
11. Good Girl (Dirty Version)
12. Bill One Fifteen
13. Start Tonight

As far as I am concerned some of My best work on the CD includes
“Friday Night” “For The Show” “Good Girl” and “Bill One Fifteen” but I think
they are all pretty good (ofcourse I am bias).

Anyway I really do hope you will phone a few stations over the next few weeks to get the ball rolling. If you can manage calling a couple of different ones every few days that would be great. It would only take a couple of minutes. Email works too and
I have provided those for you but direct contact with the DJ/Host is always
best. If you get a voicemail just leave a message. If no-one answers its because
they are probably on the mic and cant answer right that second so try again in a
few minutes. If you have a ton of time on your hands call the whole list. I
really need your support here. And again you dont have to leave the comfort of
your own home just dial a few numbers. Heck try even sending a text.
The following list is categorized by Province. Try to spread your love between a few
different provinces. If everything goes well here I can move on to the United
States campus Radio and then well…… I can dream can’t I…..
Your support is really appreciated. Hope you can help me out.

FULL-LENGTH CD ALBUM vs EP, Singles and Vinyl – “Never Too Late” Release Info….

February 2, 2014 by Kit Leave a Comment

Hey folks. With the upcoming launch of my new music project I thought I would take just a moment to reflect on my perspective when it comes to releasing music. No doubt that whether it be a Full-Album, EP or Single the way to get your music out there is most successful if its done through digital distribution as very few people actually purchase hard CD copies anymore. Especially if those hard releases include only a few tracks like that of an EP or a Single. Actually it may be more opportunistic to release a Vinyl single or EP if your hoping for actual sales of such release type as almost nobody will purchase a CD single anymore and very few will probably purchase an EP. These short title list type of releases do however do well as digital distribution releases and now artists can release many more of these and more often then in the past because of the cheap cost of doing so. MY OPINION HOWEVER, is that this has caused the novelty of the “full album” release to go to the wayside. Many artists nowadays just release singles constantly and never really release full albums anymore. Its made it easier for the musician as they no longer have to spend the time and effort and tens of thousands of dollars writing and recording and manufacturing 13 songs. Lets face it, it is hard work finding and writing new material to meet the criteria of a full album release and it costs a lot too. I HOWEVER AM STILL A TRUE BELIEVER OF THE FULL RECORD!!! I like to listen to a full album from artists when I purchase music and I also like to make a full album when I am creating music. That’s part of the reason it took me as long as it did to release this new project. My new record “Never Too Late” is in fact a full-length CD Album with Thirteen NEW and previously unreleased songs. A great insight into my growth as a musician and producer and my thoughts and doings of my current life situation. The way the album looks, the order of the songs, the sound progression, the gaps between tracks, the artwork, the story the album creates, and the length of the songs and albums are all critical components that you just dont get from a Single or an EP. I am a true believer in the album. Plus I still enjoy actually having a hard copy CD to hold in my hand, look at and listen too so if I am going to purchase any plastic CD type material I sure hope the musician has put forth a full-album effort and I am getting my dollars worth of the materials it took to make the product. Lets face it, whether its a EP release, Single or Full Length CD the materials that go into making it are all the same so GO BIG OR GO HOME. What I am trying to get at here also is the fact that I want people to not only download a song or two when the album becomes available on I-Tunes April 23, 2013 but if they like what they here then I would like it even more if they would connect with me personally and purchase a Hard copy of my actual CD Too!! I mean I put my heart and soul not only into writing, recording and producing the songs but because I do everything myself, I also put my heart and soul into the design, printing and manufacturing of the CD itself and that takes just as much talent as far as I am concerned as creating the music portion. I want you to see and enjoy all aspects of this release and I feel you can really only do that by purchasing a HARD COPY of the “NEVER TOO LATE” CD from me when it becomes available April 23, 2013. One of My Favourite parts of the CD is the CD artwork itself. And because its only on the actual CD DISC part of the CD it can only be seen or enjoyed if you have your own hard copy. It’s the liitle things that are on this CD album that also show my growth as a self-sufficient musician. From logo implementation, UPC barcodes, ISRC codes, 180 degree fonts, vertical and horizantal layouts, spacing, colour shemes, picture input, paper quality, overall finished look and all the other design stuff you will notice great improvements and a much more professional looking CD album product over my previous “My World” release. To totally understand where I come from as a true independent and self-suficient original musician I feel you need to see and be a part of the Full-album Hard Copy experience as well as the digital distribution components. Obviously I need to see some legitimate digital sales via I-tunes to suplement some of the expense of this project I do still hope if you like what you have downloaded that you please connect with me too and order the full-length hard copy of the record also. As of April 23, 2013 you can order the CD Hard Copy by emailing contactme@kitcairns.com and/or download some or all of the songs from this “Never Too Late” album by visiting I-tunes. Your support is appreciated as there are always heavy expenses with a music release even when you do it yourself.

It’s “Never Too Late” By Kit Cairns 2013 – Where Have I Been????

February 2, 2014 by Kit Leave a Comment

Hey everyone. I just had to reload all of my journal entries since the beginning of this website which was everything since about 2006. It was a pretty big job. I was glad I did it though because it allowed me to review the progression since the start of my music career and all of the wonderful things that have happened with regard to my music, my family and life in that time extending to the ‘North Ontario Tour’ and our amazing ‘Homestead Wedding’ both of which took place in 2010. More recently however it has been a rough patch for our family as within the last couple of years we have gone through some hard times for sure. Without going into much detail about it I will just say that we have lost several of our closest family members and have had to deal with several degrees of loss of which I know we will never come to accept or truly understand. This alongside the regular daily life activities may account for part of the reason why I have not updated this journal as often as I used to do. In light of this I thought I would take a little time right now to discuss what’s going on with my new album release and try to start to get back into the groove of regularly updating this blog. Generally speaking, it does not look like I have posted much on here since the “Kit and Marcus Show” – North Ontario Tour Feb 2010 so I will start there. That tour was amazing! It was everything I had hoped it would be and a great reprieve after being cooped up for a year raising my two young boys and a way to let loose before I had to head back to work after the parental leave. It was a once in a lifetime chance and opportunity to be able to plan and execute my own tour from the ground up and have it be a complete success founded on only our original music. A very rare and cherished event and certainly a dream come true. Marcus started to keep some journal entries along the way but somewhere around Timmins we just couldn’t keep up with the writing. Maybe one day he will finish those entries and I can add them to this website as there were some pretty neat things to talk about from that tour. After that tour I headed right back into my teaching career and with the Ontario curriculum changes and being busy with two young boys at home there was almost no thinking of music. I did still perform a few times for special events like the Enbridge Music On Main Festivals, Local and Live Idol Style Competitions and the Barrie/Mady/Budweiser New Music Fest with great media coverage and larger crowds then in the past but my gigs were far and few between. Although my musical career continues to grow at every opportunity aside from the BIG tour and those regular annual gigs I was not able to focus much more of my energy on anything but the wedding to my beautiful wife, and raising our wonderful family so my music generally speaking took a back seat. There was the odd time I was able to sit and try to write a song but it was near impossible to make it through to the finish so I had a whole lot of unfinished workings going on but nothing concrete. Then I tried sitting down and working with Laura while writing my songs. I would play the guitar and she would write the lines down on paper so I did not have to put down the guitar after every new line. She was also able to add her own creative contributions to some f the songs and things started to move along more quickly. I mean the times of being able to stay up all night and write or record songs have gone to the wayside. It worked out really well to have Laura work with me and she was able to help me write the last three or four songs for this new album in a much more efficient way then I had done in the past. In the end the songs got written but I still had to make time to get into the studio to lay down the recordings. This in itself was challenge due to the fact that I had recently purchased new equipment for the studio and had not yet fully learned its functionability. Furthermore, with a young family and a full time teaching career recording sessions were a ‘once in a while’ occurrence. I had a few songs recorded shortly after the tour but it was next to impossible to find the time to focus. Honestly it was not a priority as my family and career always have and always will come first. That however did not stop the fact that I had a deep desire to get back at it and so as a family we started to find solutions that would work. Long holiday weekends, march break, Christmas holidays, Easter etc I would thankfully be given an empty house for a day or two at a time and could focus on the recording and production aspects of the new songs and eventually new album. I could only do one song per “empty house” opportunity so you can imagine and understand how and why it took so long. However “ITS NEVER TOO LATE” as far as I am concerned. What the rush anyway. I mean I knew it would eventually get finished and I would get the chance to showcase my new material. I just knew it might have to take longer then originally expected. In the end it has taken about four years from start to finish to find the time and follow through with the writing, recording, mastering etc and the day is coming near when I will be able to showcase my new project. I have a couple of great improvements over my last album aside from many great new songs. I have rebuilt the studio with a much more advanced DAW Roland VS Motorized 2400 workstation with lots of new extra tools and software. That was complicated in itself and partly why it took me so long to record anything. I had to learn a whole new system and it is very complex. I still only know the basics but will grow and learn at each km of use. I also have decided to get some additional mastering completed just to add some final finishing touches and give a new ear to my sound. This was really hard for me as I like to be known as the guy who does absolutely everything himself when it comes to music but it was suggested and a necessary part of the process to bring my level of production up a notch over my previous releases. I am happy to say that after a few bumps in the road I am pretty satisfied with the outcome of the mastering. It is by no means the best you can get, actually it is probably the lowest end mastering job but again I did most of it myself prior to that part of the process so it did not need that much and I was not going to spend 10 000 having the CD shipped to New York to be mastered by the best engineers so that it sounds like a major record label release. That’s not my style or the sound that I am looking for. I prefer a much more organic grass roots style sounding original independent folk rock home studio release anyway. Then there comes the release. I had to kick that up a notch too. So I have decided to release the record to I-tunes this time around and direct most of my supporters toward downloading my music via I-tunes so we can all save both money and the environment. I am already shipping 150+ CD out to radio and will manufacture approximately $200 for sale to family, friends, gigs, etc. They will also be processionally sealed this time with an actual UPC Barcode as well. I may even re-release some of the “My World” songs to I-tunes if sales go ok with the new album first. I am hoping for more support this time around with regard to music sales. I think last time around I sold most of my records either at the CD release party itself or the tour. I had distributed about 400 or so in total sales and promotion but barely broke even. The entire process was still worth every step as I gre immensely as a musician in all aspects of the industry. I received a ton of media support both in Ontario and across Canada and these news headlines and radio charts were nice rewards to a job well done. You must remember I am completely grassroots and independent so typical success is not easy to come by. Making several campus and community radio charts and even some mainstream radio and gig royalties made me feel like I was doing something that was worthy. I don’t think I can expect the same radio support this time around but it would be great if it does happen. What I am hoping for more this time around is if my supporters (family, friends, and fans) will go to the I-tunes website and download my songs so that I can see a reward of the different kind and so that my messages and music spread throughout this planet long and far. The new album “Never Too Late” is scheduled to be released April 23, 2013 but there will be many sneak peeks and video songs floating between my many internet music sites for you to explore and be a part of the journey. Check out CBC, Twitter, Youtube, Myspace and Facebook to be a part of the process. Your support is truly appreciated.

For Immediate Release:

No Boundaries Music Entertainment

Presents The:

“Kit and Marcus Show”

North Ontario Tour – February 16th-28th

13 Days, 11 Cities and 14 Venues

Two independent musicians, 13 days of travelling, 14 great venues, 11 cities and a whole lot of original acoustic folk/rock music – “The Kit and Marcus Show” is official and kicks off in Orillia, Ontario at The Broken Road on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 at 8:00PM. From there the two seasoned singer songwriters embark on a journey to Thunder Bay and back stopping along the way to share their music and promote their passion. The thirteen day, eleven city tour wraps up at St Louis Bar and Grill in Ajax, Ontario on Sunday, February 28th, 2010.

Although Kit Cairns has more of an edgy folk sound and Marcus White produces more of a rock output, they certainly are no strangers to each other. From being in a band together, to recording songs together, to a special musical energy that flows between them, their journey together is actually one of great length. Solo album releases, radio airplay, a busy Toronto gig schedule, studio sessions, parenthood, life lessons, and an exciting vibe provide these two musicians with a history to write about and talent to get it heard. Come on out to one of their shows to hear Kit Cairns sing truth about the environment, society and his family while Marcus White provides some love with his soulful ballads reflecting life’s hardships and handshakes.

The “Kit and Marcus Show” will consist of each artist performing a distinctly unique and entertaining one hour intimate set. Kit will be performing songs from his two solo releases “This Is Me” and “My World” as well as showcasing some exciting new material destined for his 2010 album release. Marcus will be performing songs from his “From the Soul” solo release as well as promoting his much anticipated new album “Another Suburban Morning.” The last half hour of the show includes an acoustic duo where both artists come together to play a few covers and some historic songs off of their 2004 combined release titled “No Holds Barred.” Merchandise will be available for purchase as well as one free cd given away at each venue. Come on out to enjoy some great food, listen to some awesome original music with meaning, RELAX, and HAVE SOME FUN!!

Autumn Updates 2009 – The Barn, Wedding, Kids, Nashville, Songs, Family and More!

February 2, 2014 by Kit Leave a Comment

So I can now say I have been to Nashville. Went on a holiday with family to Sweet Home Alabama and could not pass up the opportunity. Only been home a few weeks and already I have been offered a songwriting contract from one of the representitives that I met while I was down there. Not sure it’s for me but the whole experience has been flattering and encouraging nonetheless. See they want to re-reccrd four of my songs (Slow Down, Deep Inside, Full Of Greed, and Just For Me) in their studio in something called “Nashville Style” without me (different singer and a Full Studio Session Band) then they pitch them to artists like Tim Mcgraw, Shania etc and see if they will buy them. Sounds neat but I have to pay them to do that and on top of it they would keep a 5% Management fee from any royalties received (if I even receive any). So like I said before I am not sure I can do it let alone think its for me. I have been writing some new songs though and have that burning desire to get them out there and heard in front of a live audience. Its now been seven months since I have played a Toronto show but the workings are in place as we speak. Been planning for the 2010 release a little but boy next year is going to be a jam packed, fun filled, exciting adventure. I mean Canyon turns a year, Walden will turn three, My sister Dusty will be having her baby, Laura and I will be having our wedding, I will be returning to work (thank goodness the kids are actually driving me up the wall somedays and going back to work will actually be a whole lot easier then what I am doing now with the daddy daycare and all), and to think that I will be able to complete writing, practice, produce, record, mix, design, manufacture, promote and distribute an album is unlikely. There is even more to it then that but I can’t even think about it or my brain will explode. Anyway, Laura is doing well in her new job and the barn has come a long way. Who would have thought I would be able to mix concrete and repair the foundation in the middle of November. We are way ahead of schedule. The fence has been built with a little help from Trent and Glenn (including beautiful wood gates notched by me), the foundation has been restructured and patched, the windows installed, the barnboard replaced where needed, the gangway built up, stairs built, old floor patched, seven feet of straw removed (not to mention the numerous bees nests that were within it and yes Laura and I both got stung four times each by the beautiful bumble bee species), rooof patched, flower bed planted, doors framed and about three feet of manure removed. Funny though that if someone were to see the barn today you would still think it just looks like an old barn and really have NO IDEA how much work has been put into it already. Still have to lay the new floor, build doors, hang lights, decorations, pressure wash, scrub, and assemble things for the BIG BARN WEDDING Next summer. So what else is going on. Walden is comming a long way with his words – there is not a word he can’t say. Sentence structure is pretty good. He still does not understand the word “why” though or “how” and sometimes it seems as though he forgets what the word “no” and “stop” means also. He can be quite bossy sometimes and he still is not potty trained atleast not at home. He loves to use every bathroom that exists when we are out in public though so I know he can do it. Canyon is crawling like crazy and actually pulled himself up to a standing position today which made me think its been far to long since I have updated my blog. I mean time just goes by way too quickly – especially when you are emersed in a world of diapers, baby food and crying. Boy oh boy let me tell you a crying baby is going to get the best of me. I can’t take much more of a crying baby and even whining is making me crazy. Oh well I guess I have to put up with it – I mean it was my choice and all. We will just have to see what becomes of it it in my writing of new songs – hint, hint. lol !! Canyon’s words are still limited too so crying is the only real way he can express himself right. His vocabulary is basically limited too Da Da Da Da Da. He is hard to control right now though as we don’t have our play pen and he just goes, goes, goes and gets into everything JUST LIKE HIS BROTHER WALDEN DID! What else is going on – well Laura and I have been making and bottling wine for the wedding. Bottling the first batch was quite funny. We had to siphon the wine manually through a stubborn filter and by the time we got through about half it was hard to keep the siphon flow. To make a long story short we had a mishap corking where someone fell over and knocked about ten bottles of wine to the floor that leaked all over and eventually through the ceiling. Lets say we certainly did not save any money on that first attempt and had a little headache the next day. W should however break even on the third or fourth batch. I think we need an electric pump for the next time though. So what else is going on….hmmm…oh I know we tried installing the snowblower on the tractor for the first time and it took the whole day. It should not be so bad next time but boy did I get frustrated. I almost flipped over the tractor by hand trying to get it on. Anyway, looking forward to hitting the studio to record some new tracks. Have written about a third of the album and I think there just might be a few hits there. I am curious to see how it all unfolds this time with the new equipment and all. I still would like to go back and re-record many of my songs with the new equipment but I gess a “best of” album will have to wait. Anyway if you are reading this I thank you very much and appreciate any support that people have provided to my music in 2009. It has been a wonderful year for myself, my family, the barn and my music. I especially would like to thank Craig Ross (not that you will likely read this) for playing my songs on your radio show here in Barrie – it really is neat to hear yourself on the radio and wonder who else may be listening. I would also like to thank SOCAN for my Royalty cheques which have finally started to come in. I received three payments this year which is strong encouragement also – now only if I can sell some CD’s and get more people out to my shows then I would be completely satisfied with the effort put forth. Ok well I guess that is it for now. Enjow the rest of the fall season, don’t get carried away Christmas shopping, take care of yourself first, and and PLEASE DONT FORGET to drop into www.kitcairns.com to take a look around and wish me a Merry Christmas. Interview and Article By Toronto Exclusive Magazine – June 2009

February 2, 2014 by Kit Leave a Comment

Interview and Article By Ani Artinian – Toronto Exclusive Magazine – June 2009Kit Cairns is a musical artist with a lot on his plate. He is constantly juggling between being a father, a teacher, and a musician. While he’s a father first, his passion for teaching and music go hand in hand and compliment each other well. Kit believes that “bringing people awareness of the world is the most important thing”, and he does this through being a father, teacher, and musician. Kit is a teacher in all respects, with the students being his children, his classroom pupils, and his audience. He even has hopes to someday start his own alternative school that provides a down to earth, grassroots education that teaches about the fundamentals of life. This grassroots belief system comes out in Kit’s music as well. He describes his music as “edgy alternative or edgy folk rock.” And you’ll definitely find that the music is lyrically in line with his values. He frequently writes and sings songs about his perception of the meaning of life, and provides profound messages about why he believes we’re here. His music speaks about rising above the constructed world we’ve built for ourselves, and getting back to our roots in a more soulful and meaningful way. When asked about his passion for music and performances, he stated that whatever inspires him to get up in front of his students is the same thing that inspires him to get up on stage. He believes he has something important to say, and feels an intense need for people to listen to him and hear his message. Surprisingly, Kit used to have stage fright when he first started performing. But once he realized that being a musician is a profession just like teaching, he put those fears to rest. Kit has come a long way since he first started playing music. He now has two CDs out, thanks to all his hard work put forward in writing, singing, recording, and producing his own songs. He feels having this much say in your own music is “satisfying and rewarding, something that’s completely your own.” He also has a company called No Boundaries Music Entertainment. With this company, he hopes to help out other artists since he knows the ropes and has been there before. His dedication to take other artists to the next level is one of his goals for the upcoming year, as well as getting started on a new album that he hopes will be complete by 2010.
